Management body

The Costa Quebrada Geopark has clear objectives: the conservation and social and cultural use of the geological heritage of its territory.

To achieve them, the broadest possible participation is necessary, which translates into the creation of a dense network of actors that collaborate to varying degrees in achieving them.

Since 2015 there has been a collaboration agreement that brings together the different institutions and organizations that share the principles of the Geopark and share its vision for the future.

The Costa Quebrada Association, manager of the Geopark, is thus joined by the town councils of the 8 municipalities involved:

  • Santander City Council.
  • Camargo City Council.
  • Santa Cruz de Bezana City Council.
  • City Council of Piélagos.
  • Miengo City Council
  • Polanco City Hall
  • Suances City Council
  • Santillana del Mar City Council

The relevant departments of the Government of Cantabria also participate:

  • Department of Rural Development, Livestock, Fisheries and Food.
  • Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports.
  • Department of Education, Vocational Training and Universities.
  • Department of Public Works, Housing, Regional Planning and Environment.

They are joined by scientific institutions:

  • University of Cantabria

In addition to public institutions, there are private entities of different types.

Within the framework of this agreement, actions aimed at the development of the strategic lines for the management of the Geopark are planned annually.
